Sacramento, CA

We arrived in Sacramento early in the morning at 6 am. Our first step was a “starbucks stop”.

We then walked to the State Capitol, home of the assembly, senator and “the governator” of Califonia. It was cold and rainy and our wet feet made us feel even colder. The Capitol is sourrounded by the capitol park. We saw different squirrels eating oranges! (There were lots of orange trees).
At 11 am we met couchsurfer Marisa. She took us to a brunch in one of her friends house. They served us fried “in-egg plunged” bread cubes with sirup, bacon and fruit salad. Delicious!
After brunch we played a funny card game.

Marisa took us back to downtown and we spent the rest of the day in Old Sacramento, the oldest part of the city. This part of Sacramento had been elevated in the mid 18 hundreds when floods where frequent. As a consequence of this operation there still is an underground city, which can be visited (unfortunately just in summer). Old Sacramento has a lot of particular stores and it's style remembers the far west.

In the evening we went to a couchsurf couple. Ryan and Janeen. They are very nice! They cooked tacos for us. We played a funny question game and had a nice time toghether. They also have 2 cute cats: Waffles and Alfie. Waffles is like a dog: you throw her a toy mouse and she will fetch it and return it.
On monday 3th we visited the Capitol again, this time for a guided tour inside the building.

Before leaving Sacramento we went to the Sutter's Fort Park (kind of museum). Sutter was a Swiss emigrant who came to America in his 30ies looking for fortune.
He settled down in California 5 years after his arrival in New York in 1834. He build a fort and wanted to support all emigrants.
After gold was found on his property the gold rush began and lots of people moved to California.
The first name of Sutter's small town was “New Helvetia” but was later changed to Sacramento. :(
Towards the end of the afternoon we took the bus to Salt Lake City, our next stop. Lots of snow on the roads!
